SEJARAH VALENTINE

FEBRUARI DAN PESTA KESUBURAN

Pertengahan bulan Februari dengan cinta dan kesuburan sudah ada sejak dahulukala. Menurut tarikh kalendar Athena kuno, antara pertengahan Januari dengan pertengahan Februari adalah bulan Gamelion, yang dikaitkan dengan pernikahan suci Dewa Zeus dan Hera.
Di Roma kuno, 15 Februari adalah hari raya Lupercalia, sebuah perayaan Lupercus, dewa kesuburan, yang dilambangkan setengah telanjang dan berpakaian kulit kambing. Sebagai bagian dari ritual penyucian, para pendeta Lupercus meyembahkan korban kambing kepada sang dewa dan kemudian setelah minum anggur, mereka akan lari-lari di jejalanan kota Roma sembari membawa potongan-potongan kulit domba dan menyentuh siapa pun yang mereka jumpai. Terutama wanita-wanita muda akan maju secara sukarela karena percaya bahwa dengan itu mereka akan dikarunia kesuburan dan bisa melahirkan dengan mudah.

3 VERSI VALENTINE

1.       Pendeta St.Valentine yang hidup di akhir abad ke 3 M di zaman Raja Romawi Claudius II. Pada tanggal 14 Februari 270 M Claudius II menghukum mati St.Valentine yang telah menentang beberapa
perintahnya. Claudius II melihat St.Valentine mengajak manusia kepada agama nashrani, lalu dia memerintahkan untuk menangkapnya.

2.      Claudius II berpendapat lelaki bujang lebih tabah dan kuat dalam berperang daripada mereka yang telah menikah yang sejak semula menolak untuk pergi berperang. Maka dia mengeluarkan perintah yang melarang pernikahan. Tetapi St.Valentine menentang perintah ini dan terus mengadakan pernikahan di gereja dengan sembunyi-sembunyi dan akhirnya diketahui lalu dipenjarakan. Dalam penjara dia berkenalan dengan anak gadis seorang penjaga penjara yang mengidap sejenis penyakit. Ia mengubatinya hingga sembuh dan jatuh cinta kepadanya. Sebelum dihukum mati, dia mengirim sebuah surat yang bertulis “Dari yang tulus cintanya, Valentine.” Hal itu terjadi setelah gadis tersebut memeluk agama nashrani bersama 46keluarganya.

3.     Ketika agama nashrani tersebar di Eropah, di salah satu desa terdapat sebuah tradisi Romawi yang menarik perhatian para pendeta. Dalam tradisi itu para pemuda desa selalu berkumpul setiap pertengahan bulan Februari. Mereka menulis nama-nama gadis desa dan meletakkannya di dalam sebuah kotak, lalu setiap pemuda mengambil salah satu nama dari kotak tersebut, dan gadis yang namanya keluar akan menjadi kekasihnya sepanjang tahun. Ia juga mengirimkan sebuah surat yang bertuliskan “Dengan nama Tuhan Ibu, saya kirimkan kepadamu surat ini.”
Akibat sulitnya menghilangkan tradisi Romawi ini, para pendeta memutuskan mengganti kalimat “Dengan nama Tuhan Ibu” dengan kalimat “Dengan nama Pendeta Valentine” sehingga dapat mengikat para pemuda tersebut dengan agama Nashrani.

Jadi, sambutan Hari Kekasih tidak sesuai dan bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam.

daripada menyambut Hari Kekasih, lebih baik memperingati hari-hari istimewa seperti hari lahir atau ulang tahun perkenalan (apatah lagi lelaki sering lupa akan tarikh-tarikh penting in =]).

Jakim's Advice On Valentine's Day Celebrations For Muslims Only, Says DPM

KUALA LUMPUR 12 Feb (Bernama) -- The advice given by Jakim, the Islamic Development Department, on Valentine Day celebrations is directed solely at Muslims, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Saturday.

"It is to inform Muslims that the celebrations are not suitable for them, which does not mean that we want to demean Valentine's Day or disrespect other communities," the Deputy Prime Minister told reporters here.

He hoped that there was no misunderstanding caused by the advice from Jakim director general Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abd Aziz, who called on Muslims yesterday to stay away from Valentine's Day celebrations and avoid indecent behaviour.

Muhyiddin said:"There are practices that are regarded as suitable by others but not so in Islam because of their nature and the history associated with them."

Although Valentine's day is often associated with a Christian saint, some legends concerning it predate Christianity. And many churches say that the day is not religiously observed in Malaysia or worldwide.

On the plan by PAS Youth to have "immorality checks" on Valentine's Day in Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor, which are under the opposition pack, Muhyiddin said that such action was rather extreme.

"As Muslims, we emphasise advice. Don't ruffle the sensibilities of communities for whom the celebrations have become a practice," he said.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said Valentine's Day celebrations should not have any religious connotation.

"Celebrating Valentine's Day is just to strengthen relationships, not necessarily between young couples but also between old married couples," he said.
